Seventh Inning Home Run Helps Bethel Sweeps Saint Benedict

ST. JOSEPH, Minn.—Bethel University's softball team rebounded nicely after being swept at home by Hamline University Saturday afternoon. The Royals (12-14, 7-5 MIAC) topped Saint Benedict twice on the road Sunday by a final score of 5-4 and 3-0. BU scored a game-tying run in the top of the seventh and the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth of game one, only to shutout the Blazers (18-12, 6-6 MIAC) in game two.

Caroline Kivisto finished the day 4-for-8 with a pair of runs and two RBI. No RBI was bigger than her solo home run in the top of the seventh, which sent the game into extra innings and allowed the Royals to defeat CSB in Sunday's opener.

Wendy Roberts and Casey Marcus each went 3-for-7 at the plate with one run scored. Meanwhile, Anna Nichols went 2-for-3 in game two with one run and three RBI, thanks to a two-run double and a solo home run.

Bethel's pitchers both performed well. Lindsay Edeen improved to 6-4 on the season with a complete-game shutout in game two. Edeen allowed six hits and two walks, while striking out two in seven frames. Karli Persson allowed four runs on 11 hits and two walks, while striking out four in the complete-game (8.0 innings) performance.

The Royals continue their season Tuesday afternoon, when they welcome Saint Mary's University for a twin bill scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
