Carleton Results | Minnesota-Morris Results
LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Bethel University women's tennis team completed a doubleheader over the weekend at Lifetime Fitness, notching a win over the University of Minnesota Morris and a loss to Carleton College. It was just the second loss of the season for the women who are now 1-2 in conference play.
"We really battled hard today but Carleton just had too much for us. I'm proud of the way we competed in both matches and we just need to continue to get better against the quality teams," said head coach
Drew Fernelius.
In the opening match of the day, the Royals lost 9-0 to Carleton despite grinding out several hard-fought matches. After dropping the first two doubles contests, the No. 3 team of
Jill Weinzettel and Maddie Simpson was narrowly defeated 9-7 to give the Knights the 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The Royals were not able to sustain any momentum in singles as Carleton went on to win all six matches in straight sets. While in a losing effort,
Samantha Hindt provided the highlight for Bethel, winning five games in each set from the No. 4 position.
The Royals bounced back in the second match against the University of Minnesota Morris winning 8-1. It was a dominating performance in doubles play as the Royals did not surrender a single game while capturing all three points. Bethel would go on to win five of the remaining six matches while losing a total of just six games in those five victories. In addition, the Royals were able to use eleven different players en route to their seventh win of the season.
Bethel will be back on the court on Sunday in Orlando, Florida as they begin their Spring Break trip. The Royals will be playing six matches in five days as they continue to prepare for the meat of their conference schedule.
