ResultsMINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's tennis team notched their third consecutive 9-0 victory on Saturday as they defeated the Concordia College Cobbers. Saturday's contest marked the first conference matchup of the season for the Royals who are looking to improve on a 4-5 league record from last year.
"We got off to a slow start in the doubles but quickly turned it around and I'm excited to see where we're at when the competition stiffens, starting next week," said head coach
Drew Fernelius.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Mattie Kidder and
Anna Browning glided to their second straight 8-1 triumph to earn the first point of the day and ignite the Royal attack. After cruising to a comfortable victory in the first match of the day, the Royals grinded out a pair of 8-4 wins in the No. 2 and 3 slots to capture all three points heading into singles play.
Kidder again found success in the No. 1 singles match after coming all the way back from a 1-5 deficit in the second set. Freshman
Sydney Parkinson led the way to a sweep of the remaining singles matches from the No. 2 position as the Royals took each contest in straight sets.
The Royals will now look ahead to next weekend's matchup with the University of Minnesota Duluth at the Arrowhead Tennis Center. The match is slated to start on Friday at 7 p.m. as the Royals put their winning streak on the line.
