Five Players in Double Figures Push Royals Past Norse

WHEATON, Ill.—The Bethel University's men's basketball team has tasted the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat after the first two games of the 2016-17 campaign and Saturday BU left Wheaton College on a high after defeating Luther College in the 2016 Lee Pfund Classic Consolation Championship by a final score of 88-78.

The Royals (1-1, 0-0 MIAC) shot 53.4 percent from the floor and 52.4 percent from outside the arc, while forcing the Norse (0-3, 0-0 IIAC) into 14 turnovers—opposed to their four—en route to the 10-point victory.

Bridgeport Tusler, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, scored 20-plus points for the second consecutive game and BU finished with five players in double figures for the second night as well.  Tusler, who composed 20 points and six boards Friday against Heidelberg, finished Saturday with a game-high 24 points and two rebounds. The junior out of Osseo shot 8-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-8 from downtown.

Right behind Tusler was Brycen Wojta and rookie Granger Kingland. Wojta finished with 18 points and four assists in 35 minutes, while Kingland poured in 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

Trevor Hall followed his double-double Friday with 12 points, five rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and two steals. Derek Magnuson was 4-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the foul line for 10 points and five rebounds.

BU shot 63.0 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes, including a 7-of-9 mark from outside the arc. Also impressive was the Royals' 15-of-20 effort from the charity stripe.

Bethel's season continues Tuesday, November 22, when the Royals play host to Martin Luther College in their home opener at 7:30 p.m.
