Bethel Blazes Past Saint Benedict, 3-2

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. –  The Bethel University women's soccer team added another win to their conference record, which now stands an MIAC best 5-0-0 on the 2016 season.  Bethel came out of the game with a 3-2 win after playing on this chilly day against the College of Saint Benedict Blazers, ranked No. 7 in the latest NSCAA North Region Rankings.

Ball possession was fairly well-distributed between the two teams, though Bethel managed to send more shots to the goal during both halves.  There were a few potential goal opportunities for the Royals towards the beginning of the game, but it wasn't until freshman Rachel Ness scored off of a loose ball with 10 minutes left in the first half, giving Bethel their first goal.

The Blazers came down quickly in the second half, scoring goal number one at 49:12. Bethel didn't leave the score tied for long as senior Mikayla Nordin scored goal number two for the team with an assist by senior Mikala Smith.  This is Nordin's seventh goal of the year, as she and her teammates are two thirds of the way through the season.

Within another 10 minutes, the Royals scored their final goal for the day with freshman Maria Retting's sixth score of her 2016 season, assisted by sophomore Maggie Sipe. The Blazer's Brooke Demets scored their final goal, leaving the game at a 3-2 victory for the Royals.

"It was a solid performance today," said head coach Amanda Maxwell. "It was fun to see us respond with a goal right after they tied it up. We had great possession and worked together as a team."

The Bethel women return home once again to the Ona Orth Athletic Complex to play St. Catherine University. This game will be held on Tuesday, October 11th at 4 p.m. This game, along with the final and following five games, are all MIAC games with two home games and three away.
