ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team competed in their final game of the regular season of 2016 against Macalester College, coming away with a 1-0 victory. With the determination the Royals had throughout the entire game, it was clear that they wouldn't leave without putting everything they had out on the field.
"We had a great game," said head coach Amanda Maxwell. "We came with a ton of energy and passion, and we played a great game."
While shots were coming evenly from both teams during both halves of the game, the Royals defense were able to withhold any goals from the Scots. The one and only goal of the game was scored towards the end of the first half at 36:00 by sophomore Maggie Sipe on a header, assisted by sophomore Sydney Wight. Sipe has scored an impressive 10 goals this season with eight assists.
"The goal we scored was a fantastic goal and a perfect way to finish the regular season," remarked Maxwell. "I'm proud of this team and the true team effort we have had all season."
The win gives the Royals the No. 2 seed in the MIAC Playoffs as they will host the winner of the No.3/6 seed game between Augsburg and Hamline. The Auggies and Pipers play on Tuesday afternoon and the winner will head to the Ona Orth Athletic Complex on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. matchup with the Royals. Fans should be aware that as an MIAC Playoff contest admission will be charged at $7 for adult and $3 for any student (5 years old and younger are free).
