ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University women's tennis team boasted a strong fall season with two Royals competing well in the ITA Tournament along with two dominant team wins against NCAA DII Southwest Minnesota State University and Buena Vista University.
Junior
Mattie Kidder and Sophomore
Sydney Parkinson participated in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships on September 23-24 at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. The ITA tournament showcases the nations top talent at all levels of collegiate tennis. Both Royals won their first round matches before being defeated in the second round. Kidder's loss was a competitive 6-3, 7-5 loss and Parkinson's match went three sets before she fell 7-5, 2-6, 13-11. In doubles, they made it to the quarterfinals winning their first two matches by a score of 8-3 and then lost 8-6 to the number three seed in the tournament.
That same weekend, the team traveled to Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minnesota for a dual match against the NCAA DII Mustangs of SMSU and Buena Vista. The doubles matches were highlighted by a dominant 8-3 win for
Samantha Hindt and
Jill Weinzettel, while the Royals swept SMSU in singles play to earn an 8-1 team victory.
The Bethel women continued their strong performance against Buena Vista, sweeping them 9-0 without dropping a set. The team never lost more than two games in a set except for the No. 3 doubles match where Rachel Knutson and Meghan Schuler still ended up winning 8-4.
The Bethel women finish the fall season with a 2-0 record as they will continue the 2016-17 match season in February. The women wrapped up their fall with a highly competitive scrimmage against St. Olaf on October 4th at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
