No. 2 UW-River Falls Shuts Out Royals, 4-0

BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team fell at home to the No. 2-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls Saturday night by a 4-0 score. The Falcons, who finished as the national runners-up last year, scored three second period goals to pull away from the Royals, who themselves are receiving votes in the USCHO.com Top 10 poll. Once again penalties were a big story as the game featured 15 total penalties, one night after the same crew whistled for 14 penalties.

The Royals were sent to the penalty box five times, creating four power plays for the Falcons, in the second period alone, the period in which UWRF scored three goals. Two of the Falcons scores where on the power play while one was scored shorthanded. The final goal of the night came at even strength late in the third period.

The Falcons outshot the Royals 42-12 on the night as Bethel goalie Maggie Straka made 38 saves. The win for UWRF was their first of the season as they had not played yet this year. The two teams will have a rematch in River Falls, Wisconsin next Friday night.
