BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team was stung Saturday night by the Hamline Pipers NCAA Division III leading power play and the leading scorer in DIII hockey in a 4-0 loss at home. The Pipers scored three power play goals and Charlie Adams had a hat trick to up his season point total to an amazing 43 points, while teammate Brandon Zurn assisted twice to stay on the heels of Adams with 42 points on the year. The Pipers generated six power plays to just one for Bethel as the Royals where whistled for nine penalties to just four for Hamline, three of which were coincidentals.
Hamline and Adams made a habit of scoring late in the period as the first two goals were scored within the last three minutes of the first period and the third was scored with just two seconds left in the second period. Hamline added their fourth goal at 5:09 in the third.
Jesse Garcia made 29 saves for Bethel.
Bethel failed to score a single goal for just the second time this year with the first coming on Tuesday at No. 12 UW-River Falls. The loss leaves the Royals at 2-15-2 overall and 1-9 in the MIAC. Hamline improved to 8-9-4 and 5-6-1 as they moved into fifth place in the MIAC standings. Bethel will return to action next weekend with a series against St. Olaf College.
