St. Olaf Scores Four Unanswered Goals to Pull Away from Bethel, 7-3

BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team fell victim to four unanswered goals by the St. Olaf College Oles Friday night, falling 7-3 at home. After Bethel tied the game up at 3-3 late in the second period, St. Olaf scored once before the end of the second to regain the lead then scored three times in the third period for the final margin. Eric Szafranski, Dallas Marvin and David Becker scored for Bethel.

St. Olaf took a 1-0 lead after the first period and tacked on another early in the second. The Royals got their first score of the night when Eric Szafranski stuck one in the back of the net with an assist from Blake Peavy at 6:36 in the second. St. Olaf responded with their third goal just over three minutes later. Bethel then scored back-to-back goals in a three minute span to tie the game up. Dallas Marvin was able to finish for Bethel after the Royals beat the Oles goalie to a puck behind the net and knocked it in before he was able to recover to make it 3-2. David Becker then scored his first collegiate goal at 15:04 to tie the game up. Justin Bonanno and George Splichal assisted on Marvin's goal while Mitch Hughes and Travis Payne assisted Becker. At 17:27 the Oles took the lead back and never looked back, scoring three times in the middle and late parts of the third period.

St. Olaf improved to 4-11-5 overall with the win while Bethel dropped to 2-16-2. The Royals and Oles will faceoff again Saturday night in Northfield, Minnesota at 7 p.m.
