Disallowed Goals Doom Royals in Loss to Tommies

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University women's soccer team fell to the University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon by a score of 2-0, taking their record to 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in MIAC play.

The two teams competed well at the beginning of the game with both coming out aggressively but it was ultimately the Tommies who were able to take advantage.  Hayley Engel broke the ice with her first score of the season in the seventh minute, converting passes from Brielle Bierman and Mallory DeBoom.  Despite the aggressiveness the Royals showed in the first half, they were not able to equalize the game heading into halftime.

It remained a hard-fought battle in the second half with both teams having numerous scoring chances but once again it was the Tommies who ultimately found the back of the net.  Brielle Bierman scored in the 78th minute after executing a leaping header which screamed inside the far post and past the goaltender.  However, the Royals made a valient comeback effort and appeared to have scored twice in the final 12 minutes but both goals were disallowed by offsides calls.

After a solid performance against one of the better treams in the conference, the Royals will now look ahead to Wedneday's game which will be a 4 PM start back at the Ona Orth Complex.  Bethel will be in pursuit of their second consecutive non-conference win when they take on the University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse.
