ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Bethel University's women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker at Saint Benedict Saturday afternoon, as the Royals fell by a final of 3-6.
Doubles play proved to be the difference maker, as BU opened the match with a gutsy 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles, but fell at No. 2 and 3 by a final of 6-8 in both contests.
Â
The Blazers then rattled off victories at No. 1, 2, 3, and 6 singles, while Bethel's
Mattie Kidder and
Anna Browning won at No. 4 and 5 singles.
CSB's wins at No. 1, 2, and 6 singles didn't come easy, as Bethel's
Kristin Vivian fell in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles (4-6, 6-2, 8-10) and
Abby Kreklau lost at No. 2 by a final of 4-6, 3-6.
Larissa Voss also dropped the No. 6 singles match by a final of 6-7, 2-6.
Â
With the loss, the Royals are now 11-6 overall and 3-3 against conference opponents. Bethel will closeout their season with four conference matches remaining, including Monday's home test against St. Thomas.Â
