Box ScoreROCHESTER, Minn. – The Bethel University women's tennis team won two out of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches in a 7-2 victory over Central (Iowa) College Saturday evening. The win improves the Royals record to 10-5 overall on the season as they have won five of their last seven matches.
In a very similar script to the men, the Bethel women lost at No. 1 doubles but claimed wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles. At No. 1 singles,
Kristin Vivian, like her counterpart on the men's side, Matt Schull, lost the first set of her singles match after also losing her doubles match, but fought back to take the win; 1-6, 7-6, 10-2. The rest of the Royals won in straight sets with the exception of
Anna Browning, who was playing up a slot at No. 4 singles and lost 6-1, 6-2.
Abby Kreklau won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Kourtney Jakubic won 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 slot. At No. 5 singles
Larissa Voss improved her singles record to an outstanding 11-4 with a 7-5, 6-0 win. Sammi Hindt rounded things out for Bethel at No. 6 singles with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win to improve her record to 3-0 on the year.
"I was really excited about the ladies performance with some new people in the lineup and others playing up a slot, they all came through," said Bethel head coach
Drew Fernelius. "We are looking forward to what's ahead and hoping to reach the goals we have set."
The Royals return to action Tuesday night as they will take on the University of Northwestern just down the road at 5:30 p.m. in Roseville. The match will be the first outdoor match of the season for the Royals.
