Huge Second Half Leads to Comeback Win over Concordia

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—If you were a Bethel University fan in the first half of Monday night's men's basketball game against Concordia College, you may have been nervous about the game's final outcome. But fortunately for the Royals the second half was a completely different frame, as BU outscored the Cobbers 53-35 en route to a 74-66 victory at home.

Bethel shot just 32.1 percent in the opening 20 minutes and fell behind 21-31 going into the locker room. A completely different look and feel from the Royals coming out of the break, however, saw BU shoot 53.1 percent in the final period—including a 15-of-23 (65.1 percent) stretch from inside the 3-point line.

Not only did the Royals excel from the floor, but they also finished the second half shooting 17-of-19 at the free throw line, which boosted their overall average for the game up to 90 percent (19-of-21).  Bethel was 10-of-10 in the final 0:48.

BU's defense forced Concordia into 19 turnovers, opposed to the Royals eight. That noticeable margin led to a 21-8 differential in points scored off turnovers. Bethel also dominated inside, outscoring the Cobbers in the paint 40-28.

Leading the way underneath the rim was Kyle Zimmermann, who finished the MIAC matchup with 16 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, and three assists. Jackson Canfield had a great night off the bench, scoring 14 points on 3-of-6 shooting and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe alongside five rebounds.

Trevor Hall and Bridgeport Tusler also scored in double figures. Hall poured in 11, while recording four steals and three assists. Tusler added 10 points and three assists. Kyle von Schimdt-Pauli and Jared Nelson each ended the game with eight points.

The Royals look to stay in the win column with a Wednesday night battle at home against Macalester. BU and the Scots tipoff at 7 p.m. in the Robertson Center Gym.
