FARGO, N.D. – The Bethel University women's tennis team opened up their 2015 season the same way they ended the 2014 season; with a dominant 9-0 victory over Concordia College. The Royals traveled to Fargo, North Dakota for Saturday afternoons match at the Courts Plus tennis facility. Bethel won all three doubles matches by the same 8-2 score and swept the singles matches with all but two coming in straight sets.
Kristin Vivian and
Abby Kreklau were the Royals No. 1 doubles tandem.
Mattie Kidder and Maddy Simpson played at No. 2 doubles and
Kourtney Jakubic and
Anna Browning teamed up at No. 3. In singles play senior
Kristin Vivian at No. 1 singles and freshman
Anna Browning at No. 6 singles got the Royals rolling with 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1 wins respectively.
Larissa Voss cruised at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3 and
Mattie Kidder won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
Kourtney Jakubic and
Abby Kreklau both pulled out three set victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Jakubic won 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 while Kreklau dropped the first set 4-6, but came back with solid 6-2 and 10-2 second and third set victories.
The win improves the Royals to 3-1 on the season as they played three matches in the fall that count on their non-conference record. Bethel is 1-0 in the MIAC and will return to action next Saturday against Saint Mary's University. The Royals will host the Cardinals at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.
