MIAC ReleaseDespite a step up in competition, Bethel senior thrower
Alyssa Solberg (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) still starred in last weekend's Parents Day Open, which was hosted by Division I Minnesota in Minneapolis. Solberg was the only Division III student-athlete to earn a top-six finish in the weight throw, and she did so with the MIAC's No. 1 recorded distance this season. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Solberg Wednesday with her second MIAC Women's Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week honor of 2015.
Solberg finished sixth in the weight throw at the Parents Day Open thanks to a distance of 54-2 feet, or 16.51 meters. Now Solberg is the only MIAC thrower to eclipse 54 feet this season as her distance ranks No. 1 in the league, and it also registers as the 13th-best throw in all of Division III this season. The only athletes to beat Solberg were three throwers from host Minnesota, and two from Division II Minnesota-Duluth. This season, Solberg also ranks in the top 20 in the MIAC in the shot put as well.
Solberg and company have just one more opportunity to prepare for the 2015 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., on March 6-7. Bethel will close the regular season Friday with a trip across the metro area to compete in the Kilt Classic, which will be hosted by Macalester College in St. Paul at 5 p.m.
