ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team came away with a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon against the Concordia College Cobbers. It was the fifth victory for the Royals in their last seven contests and marked their second conference victory as well.
The match started out conspicuously for the Royals as Concordia converted the first goal of the game in the fourth minute. Dami Adegunle found the back of the net for the Cobbers notching his second goal of the season and put the Royals in an early deficit. However, the Royals quickly responded with a goal of their own as junior Danny Jaderholm capitalized with a beautiful header (pictured above) off an assist from Ryan Ness. The equalizing goal sent a surge of energy through the home crowd and quickly gave the Royals momentum to build on.
Fortunately for the Royals, Jaderholm's work in the first half continued as he assisted on their second goal which Connor Miller converted in the 19th minute. The two early goals gave the Royals their first lead and their strong first half defense helped to sustain the lead heading into halftime. They were able to sustain their defensive prowess in the final period as they surrendered just four shots to the Cobbers. The Royals ultimately fired 22 shots compared to just 8 for the Cobbers in the contest and captured their sixth victory of the season.
The Royals will now face the Hamline Pipers in their next matchup on Tuesday afternoon before heading back home for their final game of the year against Macalester College next Saturday.
