BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team battled the St. Olaf College Oles hard but were unable to score until just 2:29 remaining in a 4-1 loss. The Oles scored once in the first period and tallied twice midway through the third period before adding an empty net goal with 11 seconds remaining.
After a very evenly played first two periods the Royals found themselves down just 1-0. The Royals were awarded just their second power play opportunity of the night at the 7:03 mark in the third period and looked to get the equalizing goal. St. Olaf was able to kill off the Royals power play however and less than two minutes afterwards were able to score themselves to take a 2-0 lead. St. Olaf then capitalized on a power play of their own two minutes later to make it 3-0.
Jackson Purvis gave Royals fans something to cheer about with a goal at 17:31 with assists to
Tucker Gran and
Travis Walls. The Royals top line nearly added a second goal shortly afterwards but were just denied and the Oles added a late empty netter for the 4-1 final.
Matt Rowe made 26 saves for Bethel. St. Olaf was 1-5 on power play while the Royals were 0-2, snapping a five game streak of having at least one power play goal.
Bethel will take a weekend off from MIAC play and travel to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to take on the No. 6 ranked Pointers on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
