WINONA, Minn. - The Bethel University women's hockey team was shutout by the Saint Mary's University Cardinals by a 1-0 final score Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals swept the pivitol MIAC series. After taking a 2-1 victory on Bethel's home ice, the Cardinals were able to keep the Royals offense in check again Saturday with goalie Tori Herrmann making 24 saves. The Royals, who have not won in Winona since the 2009-10 season, fall to 8-6-1 overall on the year but are now 3-4-1 in MIAC play. Bethel finds themselves in a three-way tie for fifth place with Concordia and Saint Benedict.
Saint Mary's scored their lone goal at 4:17 in the second period on a power play. For the game Bethel outshot Saint Mary's once again, 24-21, but were unable to score a single goal.
Michelle Klimstra made 20 saves for Bethel. Bethel was 0-5 on power play opportunities and for the second game in a row, allowed a power play goal.
The Royals return to action next weekend with a series against last place St. Olaf College. Friday's game will be at Bethel University Arena and Saturday is in Northfield, Minnesota.
