Bethel Volleyball Blanks the Oles in Conference Opener

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's volleyball team kicked off their 2014 conference season extraordinarily, as the Royals captured a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-17) victory over the visiting Oles of St. Olaf.
 
BU never trailed in the opening two frames and despite 12 ties and six lead changes in the third came still managed to win in straight sets. Bethel hit .237 as a team and tallied six total blocks throughout the match, while also amassing 55 digs and 51.0 total points.
 
Tegan LaBerge and Carlee Hoppe had a solid night at the middle and outsite positions, as both put down 11 kills and hit .260 or better. LaBerge was also a part of four blocks. In addition to LaBerge and Hoppe, freshman Kristin Stern hit .286 and finished with seven kills.
 
Katie Lubben led all players with 36 assists, while Courtney Sheets and Kali Johnson finished with 17 and 11 digs, respectively. Lubben also added nine digs.
 
Bethel will attempt to make it two-straight when they travel to Winona next Wednesday to face Saint Mary's University. The first serve between the Cardinals and the Royals is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the SMU Gym.
