BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team lost a penalty infested contest, 3-1 to Saint John's University Saturday night at home. A total of 21 penalties for 45 minutes were called in the contest but not a single power play goal was scored. Saint John's scored once in the first period and twice in the second before the Royals scored their lone goal with nine seconds remaining in the game.
Tyler Swanson scored for the Royals with
Brock Raffaele and
Eric Szafranski assisting. Bethel was outshot 30-14 for the game.
Matt Rowe made the start in net for Bethel and had a solid showing, making 27 saves, including ten each in the second and third periods.
The loss drops Bethel to 3-18-2 on the season while Saint John's improves to 15-8. The Royals will take on Gustavus Adolphus College next weekend in the final series of the season. Bethel will travel to St. Peter on Friday before hosting the Golden Gusties on Saturday night.
