ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team fell in a penalty infested contest at Hamline University, 2-1. A total of 19 penalties were called on the two teams leading to a combined total of 11 power play opportunities. Amazingly, neither team scored a single power play goal however. The Pipers scored early in the first period and late in the third to take the victory.
Brock Raffaele scored Bethel's lone goal, unassisted, in the second period.
Incredibly the Royals killed off seven Hamline power plays, totaling over eleven and a half minutes. The Pipers got off nine shots during those power plays but Bethel goalie
Will Griswold stopped them all. Conversely, Bethel had four different power plays, totaling 6:36, and came up empty on just two shots.
The contest was the final one for Bethel this year as they will now head into the semester break. Unfortunately for the Royals, after winning the first two games of the year, they have now dropped 10 straight heading into the break. They will resume play with a pair of non-conference home contests on January 9 and 10 against Adrian College and Lake Forest College.
