First Half Lead Paves the Way to a 74-52 Win over Buena Vista

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Holding a team to three points in the opening ten minutes of the game can be very effective when trying to acquire a win. That's exactly what the Royals did Saturday afternoon against Buena Vista University. Bethel began the nonconference matinee with a 27-3 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half and cruised to a 74-52 victory over the Beavers.

BU crushed BVU inside the paint, outscoring their opponents 40-26 underneath the hoop. The Royals also held Buena Vista to 1-of-12 shooting from long range after the Beavers came in shooting 33 percent from downtown and averaging over 30 3-pointers taken per game.

Despite possessing a 24-point lead with 10:59 remaining in the first half, Bethel allowed the Beavers to trim the Royals' lead to 36-23 at the midway mark. BU, however, rattled off a 7-1 run to begin the second half and never looked back en route to a 22-point triumph.

Numerous players on the Bethel roster stuffed the stat sheet Saturday afternoon, including three that finished in double figures. Rachel Parupsky led all scorers with 19 points, along with 10 rebounds and five blocks. It's Parupsky's second consecutive double-double and her 23rd throughout her career. Kalli Zimmermann nearly completed her first double-double of the season, but was one rebound shy after posting an 11-point, nine-rebound, and four-assist performance.

Angie Kirchoff also finished the day in double figures—the first time in her young career— with 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting and a 4-of-4 mark from the free throw line. Kirchoff also dished out three assists. Sydney Schultz dropped two shots from deep to collect eight points, while Hannah Niewald added six points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

Lindy Parker hauled down a season-high and tied a career-best with 10 rebounds throughout the day, helping Bethel out-board the Beavers 58-48.

The Royals play their third-straight home game to start their season next Tuesday evening, when they host UW-River Falls for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
