MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 10 ranked Bethel University women's hockey team opened up MIAC play Friday night and had to settle for a 1-1 tie against Augsburg College. The Royals were unable to score the game winner despite outshooting the Auggies 28-20 and having an overtime power play opportunity.
Bethel scored the first goal of the game at 1:26 in the second period when
Kalie Johnson converted a power play opportunity.
Natalie Simons and
Karly Vohden assisted on Johnson's goal. Augsburg was able to tie the game back up shortly after, however, at 4:02 in the second. Freshman
Michelle Klimstra made 19 saves in the game for Bethel. Both teams had three power plays with the Royals converting on one and totaling seven shots while the Auggies had just one shot and no goals in their chances.
The Royals and Auggies will square off again Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Bethel University Arena. Live video and stats can be found here.
