ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University Men's soccer team defeated the Saint Mary's University Cardinals 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to grab their seventh win on the season and extend their winning streak to three games. The Royals came out aggressively to start the game and outshot the Cardinals 6-0 in the first half.
The Royals struck quickly with the duo of
Matthew Pisarski and
Stephen Gronseth, with Pisarski netting the team's first goal in the eighth minute. Coach Iwaszkowiec was happy with his team's effort and the execution of the set piece that led to the early score.
In addition to the early strike, Bethel would score again in the 33
rd minute with
Danny Jaderholm converting on assists from
Jake Opheim and
Ryan Ness. The Royals would enter halftime with a comfortable two-goal lead behind a strong defensive effort and solid play from freshman goalkeeper
Jakob Bartels.
The Cardinals were able to put more pressure on in the second half, producing five shots against the Royals' defense but were unable to produce a goal. Royals' freshman
Abner Arias-Olson then put the game away with a breakaway strike assisted by
Ryan Ness in the 89
th minute.
Coach Iwaszkowiec was impressed with his team's overall performance saying, "It was a total team effort, everyone that played today did really well and everyone contributed."
The Royals will finish this four-game home stretch against Hamline University next Saturday at 11 a.m. before finishing the regular season on the road against Gustavus.
