BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team turned in a dominate performance Saturday afternoon in a 6-0 victory over St. Olaf College. The Royals got dynamic play making from
Lindsay Burman and a host of others along with outstanding goaltending from
Erika Allen. Burman assisted on the first four Bethel goals before scoring the fifth one herself. Freshman
Kathryn Larson and
Lauren Kolak each scored two goals while
Cristina Masten scored the Royals sixth and final goal.
Burman set Larson up for the first goal of the game 11:29 into the first period. A power play goal by
Lauren Kolak, who deflected a Burman shot in at 16:08 extended the Royals lead to 2-0 after the first period. Early in the second, Burman again set up Larson in a nearly identical play.
Erin Harper and
Caroline Kivisto also assisted on the Kolak and Larson goals. Just forty seconds after Larson's second goal, Kolak scored her second goal, again assisted by Burman. The Royals took the 4-0 lead into the second intermission. Over six minutes into the third period, Burman completed her big scoring night by taking control of the puck behind the Royals goal and skating around and through the entire St. Olaf defense before cutting across to the right side of the net, firing one past the Ole's goalie for a spectacular unassisted goal. Masten put the finishing touches on the game, scoring with just under three minutes remaining on assists by
Megan O'Brian and
Kalie Johnson. For Johnson it was her MIAC leading 17th assist of the season. With four assists on the day Burman moved into second place in the MIAC, ahead of Masten, with a total of 15. She also moved into third place in the MIAC scoring leaders with 21 points, just behind Johnson at 22 and Masten at 25.
