Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker on the road to Carleton College, 3-2 in overtime. Christa Heiligenthal scored both goals for Bethel, her first two goals of the year. The Royals found themselves trailing 2-1 at halftime but were able to get the equalizer in the second half to send the game into overtime. The Knights needed just 37 seconds in overtime to take the win, marking the second loss of the year for the Royals in overtime.

Carleton got on the scoreboard first with a goal 18 minutes in by Bailey Ulbricht. Heiligenthal scored her first goal off a rebound of a previous shot at 33:57 to even things up. With 10 minutes remaining in the half, however, Carleton took the lead back with another goal by Ulbricht. The first 20 minutes of the second period were scoreless until Suzette Anderson sent a cross in the box to Heiligenthal, who put it in to even the score. Nina Shapiro scored the Knights goal in overtime.

The loss drops Bethel to 2-6 on the year and 0-3 in MIAC play. All three MIAC losses have been by one goal with two of them coming in overtime. The Royals will be back in action Wednesday afternoon as they welcome the University of St. Thomas to the Ona Orth Athletic Complex for a 4 p.m. match.
