WINTER PARK, Minn.—As a kid growing up on the gridiron in the land of 10,000 lakes, it is a dream to get a chance to play for the Minnesota Vikings. Getting an opportunity to suit up in the purple and yellow is easier said than done, and just a dream for most. However, Cory Svihla, who was part of the 2011 graduating class here at Bethel University, is getting that opportunity.
The Foley, Minn., native, who was crowned with All-MIAC honors three of his four seasons with BU, was recently invited to participate in the Minnesota Vikings Rookie Camp last weekend at the Vikings headquarters in Eden Prairie. Svihla, now two years out of competing in the sport, has been training rigorously over the course of that time to prepare if an opportunity arose to compete at the next level. Upon the completion of a standout career for the Royals, in which the linebacker amassed over 100 tackles, Svihla attended many combines and participated in an All-Star bowl to display his talents for professional scouts.
Bethel Head Coach
Steve Johnson had this to say about Cory, “He is tough and courageous and really gifted athletically, he also seeks to know the game.” If Svihla were to be signed by Minnesota, he would then work out with the team until training camp this fall in Mankato.
