Box Score

BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team wasted little time finding the back of the net in a 4-0 victory over Augsburg College Saturday afternoon at the Bethel University Arena. The Royals scored three first period goals, the first coming just over a minute into the game off the stick of senior Biz Huss. Freshman Erika Allen, making her third consecutive start in the net, recorded her first career shutout, making 15 saves.

Huss' first period goal came on a one timer that was fired from just inside the blue line and whistled past the Auggie goaltender into the top, glove side corner of the net. Just four minutes later the Royals extended their lead when Cristina Masten got in on the action, scoring her 14th goal of the season. Masten then assisted on the next Royals score five minutes later as Kelsey Johnston scored. The second period did not see any scoring despite featuring the most shots of all the periods. Allen made seven saves while the Royals put nine shots on goal in the period. The third period was more of the same until freshman Renee Johnson scored her first collegiate goal at the 9:53 mark to give the Royals the 4-0 final margin. Karissa Thomson and Alyssa Franz assisted on the play.

The Royals held Augsburg to just 15 shots in the game while attempting 28 of their own. The Royals came up empty on all four of the power play opportunities despite 10 shots. The win keeps the Royals in good position to claim another MIAC playoff spot as the Royals sit in fourth place, three points ahead of fifth place St. Olaf and six ahead of sixth place St. Catherine with four games to go. The Royals are just one point behind St. Thomas and Concordia who are tied for second. Next weekend Bethel faces off with Saint Benedict, who has just three MIAC wins and sits in eighth place.
