BLAINE, Minn. – The Hamline University Pipers flipped the script on the Bethel University men's hockey team as the Pipers claimed a 2-1 win for their first victory of the season. The Royals were unable to continue with their winning ways after claiming their first victory, also 2-1, the night before. Hamline scored the first and the last goals of the game to claim the win.
Hamline converted a power play into their first goal at 8:56 in the first period. The Royals got on the board with a power play goal of their own at 2:27 in the second period as
Eric Szafranski was able to put one home.
Travis Payne and
Tyler Sorensen assisted on the goal. The game remained knotted at 1-1 well into the third period before Hamline was able to get the game winning goal with just under six minutes remaining in the game.
Steven Bolton made 31 saves on the night for Bethel as the Pipers outshot the Royals 33-26. Bethel was able to convert just one of five power plays, a total of 14:26.
The Royals fell to 1-9-2 with the loss and 1-5-1 in the MIAC. Hamline is now 1-8-1 and 1-3 in the MIAC. Bethel will now take a month off for the semester break before returning to action on January 10th against Wisconsin-Superior.
