Bethel Taste's Victory with 2-1 Win at Hamline

Box Score

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team found themselves on the winning side of a one goal game for the first time this season, defeating Hamline University 2-1 Friday night. The Royals scored in the first and third periods and held off a late Pipers rally to collect their first victory. Brock Raffaele and Jack McFarlane scored the Royals goals while Steven Bolton made 27 saves in goal for Bethel.

Raffaele continued his hot play, scoring Bethel's first goal of the night at the end of the first period. It was Raffaele's his fifth goal of the season, all of them coming in the last four games. Travis Payne and Mitch Hughes assisted Raffaele. The second period and the first 11:06 of the third period were scoreless for both teams until Jack McFarlane scored a much needed second goal for the Royals. Grant Dye assisted McFarlane. The goal proved to be critical when the Pipers scored with just over a minute remaining to pull within 2-1. Hamline was unable to attempt another shot in the game, however.

The win improves Bethel's point total in MIAC play to five, earning three points for the regulation win. The Royals other two points came from an overtime loss and a shootout loss. Hamline remains winless on the year and pointless in the MIAC. Bethel will look to sweep the Pipers in MIAC play for the third straight year Saturday night when the two teams square off at 7 p.m. at Bethel University Arena.
