High Powered Royals Offense Stifled by Cobbers, 1-0

Box Score

BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team was shutout by the Concordia College Cobbers Friday night, falling 1-0. The normally high powered Royals were contained by the Cobbers and goalie Madison Denny, who made 32 saves. Bethel entered the game averaging four and a half goals per game, a conference high, but despite several one-on-one opportunities were unable to get a shot past Denny. A late first period goal for Concordia, just their third score of the season, was enough to give the Cobbers two points in the MIAC standings.

Erika Allen was impressive in the net for Bethel as she made 29 saves, including 14 in the third period, when the Royals were able to survive a five minute major penalty with just 7:31 remaining, staying within one goal. While fending off the penalty however, the Royals were unable to generate any offense, totaling just eight shots in the third period compared to 14 for the Cobbers. For the game, the Royals outshot the Cobbers 32-30.

The loss drops Bethel to 2-1 in MIAC play and 3-2 overall. Concordia picked up their first win on the year and the first for new head coach Sarah Erickson. Concordia is now 1-2 in the MIAC and 1-4-1 overall.
