MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team won their third game in a row Saturday afternoon, scoring a season low four goals while pitching their first shutout against Augsburg College. The 4-0 win improved Bethel to 2-0 in MIAC play, completing the sweep of the Auggies, and 3-1 overall. Bethel's offensive firepower was on display again as four different Royals scored goals led by the second consecutive shorthanded goal by
Cristina Masten to get the Royals on the board first.
After scoring shorthanded on a breakaway late in Friday's win, Masten did it again just 4:47 into the game Saturday to set the tone for Bethel. Despite outshooting Augsburg 12-1 in the first period the Royals were kept off the scoreboard until 10:03 in the second period when
Caroline Kivisto scored off an assist from
Kalie Johnson. The Royals wasted little time in stretching their lead to three as
Erin Harper scored her first goal of the season unassisted at the 14:12 mark. A power play goal by
Karly Vohden early in the third period completed the scoring for the Royals. Johnson assisted again, her sixth of the season, along with Masten giving her five assists along with five goals in the first four games of 2013-14. The senior All-American is now just nine points away from breaking Bethel's all-time scoring record.
Bethel will host the Concordia College Cobbers next weekend with Friday's game beginning at 7 p.m. and Saturday's game starting at 2 p.m.
