ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team defeated the Coe College Kohawks by a final score of 5-1 in the first game of Tuesday's men/women doubleheader. The Royals were powered by two goals apiece from junior
Jessica Huseby, and senior
Suzette Anderson.
Bethel's first goal came off the foot of Huseby, who bent an arc around the outstretched arm of Coe's goalie in the thirteenth minute. Although Bethel dominated the possession throughout the first half, Coe was able to limit Bethel's scoring chances and the Royals went into the break with just a one goal lead.
It didn't take long for Bethel to get on the board in the second half, as
Lydia Brubaker scored less than two minutes after play resumed, followed by Huseby's second goal of the afternoon just 18 seconds later. Both goals were assisted by
Suzette Anderson, and the Royals led 3-0 with about 40 minutes to play.
Anderson added two goals of her own to counter a Kohawks score, giving her two goals and two assists for the game. Freshmen
Micale Jensen played well in net for the Royals, highlighted by a diving save of a Coe penalty shot midway through the second half.
With the win, the Royals improve their record to 4-7 on the season. They will resume Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, as they host the College of St. Benedict in a 1 p.m. match at the Ona Orth Athletic Conference.
