ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Despite winning two consecutive matches against conference opponents, Bethel University's volleyball team couldn't continue the momentum Wednesday—falling to Augsburg College 3-0 at home. The Royals (9-8, 2-3 MIAC) had an advantage in both the second and third set, but couldn't hold the No. 19-ranked Auggies (16-2, 5-0 MIAC) down in the end—losing 19-25, 22-25, and 21-25.
As a team, Bethel mustered just a .115 hitting percentage and were stung by the error bug with four serving errors, four receiving errors, and three ball handling errors.
Nicole Ackatz managed double-digit kills with 10 slams and a .292 attacking percentage, while
Carlee Hoppe finished with seven kills in 29 total attacks.
Kali Johnson recorded double-digit digs—finishing with 11, while Hoppe tallied eight and
Katie Lubben, seven.
Lubben and
Ashlyn Hucky shared setting responsibilities Wednesday evening, as Hucky totaled 19 assists and Lubben managed 11.
One of the brighter stories in Wednesday's setback was Bethel's five serving aces.
Kali Johnson led the way with three, while
Hannah Grow scorched two by the Auggie defense.
Bethel will travel to Waverly, Iowa, this weekend to take part in the Wartburg College Tournament Friday and Saturday. The Royals will face four nonconference opponents before returning home Wednesday night to face No. 10 St. Benedict.
