Women's Hockey Picks Up 3-1 Win over Wildcats

Trio of goals extends BU's streak without a loss

Box Score

BLAINE, Minn.—Bethel University's women's hockey squad recorded a 3-1 win over St. Catherine University Saturday, extending its streak without a loss to three games. The Royals (8-7-2, 5-3-2 MIAC) had skated to a 1-1 draw against the Wildcats (8-8-1, 5-4-1 MIAC) Thursday evening, and it looked like Saturday's matinee could have the same result, but two third period goals lifted Bethel to its eighth win of the season.

Cristina Masten (Jr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) started the trio of goals for the Royals Saturday, scoring her 10th goal of the season 12 minutes into the game on a 5-on-5. Masten's goal came from Charise Kendrick (Jr., Scandia, Minn.) and Erin Harper (Fr., Blaine, Minn.), who tallied their first and fifth assist, respectively.

The Wildcats got a goal back in the second period, knotting the game at 1-1, but the Royals netted two third period goals at the 12-minute and six-minute mark. Lindsay Burman (Jr., Stachfield, Minn.) fired her seventh goal of the season, giving Bethel a 2-1 edge before Caroline Kivisto (Fr., Dassel, Minn.) scored her sixth goal unassisted. Sarak Kartak (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) and Biz Huss (Sr., Beaver Bay, Minn.) both assisted Burman's goal at the 11:47-mark.

Erika Allen (Fr., Roseville, Minn.) finished the afternoon with 20 saves between the pipes, opposed to the 31 saves from Bethel shots Alex Hall recorded. Saturday's win was Allen's third of the season, as she improves to 3-3 while in the net.

The Royals will be challenged next weekend with a home-and-home series against the University of St. Thomas. Bethel will travel to St. Paul Friday night before hosting the Tommies Saturday at home at 3 p.m.
