ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Bethel University had a perfect Saturday of competition, defeating both Central College and Northland College 3-0, which helped the Royals finish the weekend tournament 4-0. After a pair of 3-1 victories Friday evening, BU left no doubt Saturday against both the Dutch and Lumberjills. As a result of the weekend play, the Royals improve to 7-1 after two weeks of play.
Facing Central in the first match of the day, Bethel utilized a total team attacking percentage of .324 to rally past the Dutch in three straight sets.
Caitie Helle played a sizeable role, finishing the match with 13 kills and a .400 attacking percentage.
Nicole Ackatz (Jr., Elkhorn, Wis.) also had a strong performance, tallying 10 kills.
Nicole Deberry (Fr., Libertyville, Ill.) finished the competition with eight kills and a attacking mark of .368.
Cierra Nickel (So., Sanborn, Minn.) continued her 40-plus assists string, totaling 41 assists in the match.
Amy Baumetz (Sr., Three Lakes, Wis.) had a strong contest defensively, as the senior had her hand in five blocks.
"Cierra showcased outstanding talent this weekend, both setting and defensively," said head coach
Gretchen Hunt. Hunt continued, "As a team, I was happy to see a strong effort and continuous learning from many of our younger players.
The Royals let the momentum continue in the very next match, taking Northland College in straight sets. This could initially be accredited to a .429 attacking percentage in the opening game. Yet,
Amy Baumetz played exceptional as well, finishing with 10 kills in the match.
Bethel now owns a 7-1 record overall and will begin conference play this week, as the Royals welcome St. Olaf College to the Robertson Center Wednesday, September 12.
