LA CROSSE, Wis. -
The Bethel University women's soccer team lost another tough fought match on the road Wednesday evening, falling to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 2-1. The Royals fell victim to a late game, tie-breaking goal by the Eagles at the 84:40 mark. With the loss the Royals drop to 1-2 on the season while UW-La Crosse improves to 1-2. It was the Eagles home opener in 2012.

UW-La Crosse struck first in the game, just over two minutes in to take an early lead. The Royals were able to tie the game up 11 minutes into the second period as sophomore Blythe Wheely (Wayzata, Minn.) scored her second goal of the season. Jessica Husbey (So., Medina, Minn.) picked up the assist. The game remained tied for the next 18 minutes of action with both teams putting shots on goal before the Eagles scored the winner with just over five minutes remaining.

"We came out flat and they got an early goal," Head coach Amanda Maxwell said. "We played much better in the second half and put them under a lot of pressure. It was a good game to prepare us for conference play."

The Eagles got off 17 shots with six on goal while the Royals had 15 shot attempts and seven shots on goal. Bethel had four corner kicks to the Eagles two.

Bethel will host the Eagles of Northwestern College Friday at 4 p.m. in their 2012 home opener at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex before beginning MIAC play the following Tuesday against Augsburg.
