ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team picked up their second consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory with a 3-2 win at St. Catherine's University. The Royals used a balanced scoring attack to improve to 2-1-1 in the MIAC. Suzette Anderson (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn.), Kelsey Flaherty (Sr., Shoreview, Minn.) and Anne Fazio (Sr., Holland, Mich.) scored for the Royals with Jessica Huseby (So., Medina, Minn.) recording two assists.

“It was a good win for us,” said Royals coach Amanda Maxwell. “The girls had a great first half and had the majority of the possession. It was fun to watch us move the ball around.”

The Royals scored the first goal of the game 24 minutes in when Suzette Anderson scored her fourth goal of the season. The game would stay 1-0 heading into the half, however, Kelsey Flaherty scored her fourth goal 10 minutes into the second period with an assist from Huseby. St. Kate's responded, though, with their first goal just 23 seconds later. At the 72:27 mark, Anne Fazio scored for the Royals to give them a 3-1 lead. St. Kate's did not go quietly as they scored with just over eight minutes remaining to pull within one goal. The Royals defense held tight, however, and did not allow another shot by the Wildcats.

“In the second half St. Kate's came out on fire and were very dangerous,” Maxwell said. “We struggled to get the ball back on the ground, but we did score two goals which was good.”

The Royals outshot the Wildcats 18-8, with nine shots put on goal. Kathryn McGaffey (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) made four saves in goal for Bethel.

Next up for the Royals is another MIAC matchup as they will host the Macalester College Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
