Moorhead, Minn. – The Royals volleyball squad dropped its second Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match Wednesday night, as the Cobbers of Concordia College defeated Bethel 3-1 in Moorhead. The loss drops BU to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Bethel dropped the first two games 25-17 and 25-10, before upending the home team 25-20 in the third set behind a 13-3 run that ended the game. The Royals couldn't muster a rally in the fourth; however, as the Cobbers ended the match with a 25-14 win in game four.
Coach
Gretchen Hunt and her team's best game was by far the third, as the Royals finished with a .235 attacking percentage, compared to a .040, .000, and -.050 in the first, second, and fourth, respectively.
Seniors
Caitie Helle (Onamia, Minn.) and
Amy Baumetz (Three Lakes, Wis.) both continue to shine for Bethel, as Helle ended the match with 15 kills and a .448 attacking percentage while Baumetz managed 10 kills in 27 attempts (.222), alongside a block.
Rachel Bloom (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) filled the setter shoes Wednesday evening with
Cierra Nickel (So., Sanborn, Minn.) out and composed 30 assists throughout the match. Bloom helped her club out from the serving line and back row as well, finishing with three aces and seven digs.
Val Smith (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) led the team with 12 digs in the conference affair.
The Royals will need a short memory as they travel to Northfield, Minn. Friday evening to take on Carleton College. Bethel seeks its first conference win and will compete against the Knights just a day before the two institutions square off on the gridiron.
