ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University volleyball team takes a hiatus from the long weekend travels, as the Royals take on Concordia-Moorhead and Carleton in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play this week.
At 9-4 (0-1 MIAC) overall, Bethel is seeking its first win against a conference opponent. The Royals will be tested tonight against a Concordia team that fell in the NCAA Division III Tournament region championship game. In fact, one year ago BU defeated the Cobbers, who were ranked No. 10, during the regular season, but fell in the NCAA Tournament 3-0. The Cobbers lost three All-Americans from a season ago, including Jenna Green, who was the 2011 MIAC Player of the Year, but are still challenging teams with a young lineup – much like BU.
Carleton will host Bethel on Friday at 7 p.m., which follows a Wednesday evening matchup against St. Thomas for the Knights. Carleton is coached by Heidi Luehmann Jaynes, who has coached in Northfield for 14 years. Luehmann Jaynes and the Knights began the season 6-0 before dropping three straight. Carleton has defeated its last four opponents and stands 10-3 overall, but 0-1 in the MIAC (lost to St. Catherine 3-1).
