ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Volleyball is here and the Bethel University squad is ready to begin its 2012 campaign. The Royals open its season this weekend, taking the short trip down Snelling Avenue to Northwestern College (Minn.) for the two-day, four-game ACR Homes Volleyball Opener this Friday and Saturday.
 
Bethel will square off against Wisconsin Lutheran in its opening game at 5 p.m., followed by a rematch of last year's NCAA Division III Tournament opener against Northwestern at 7 p.m. BU defeated Wisconsin Lutheran in the season opener last year 3-1. NWC outmatched the Royals 3-0 in the second game of the season, however, Bethel knocked the Eagles out of the postseason with a 3-0 victory in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
 
The Royals will return to the court Saturday to face UW-River Falls at 12 p.m. and Buena Vista at 2 p.m. The Falcons of UW-River Falls finished 2011 16-18, which included a 3-0 loss to BU on day two of the Northwestern tournament. The Beavers of BVU ended last season 9-23.
