Royals Thump Hamline 9-0

BU women's tennis team picks up first conference win

MATCH RESULTS

St. Paul, Minn. – The women's tennis team of Bethel University captured its first MIAC victory of the 2012 campaign Monday with a 9-0 stomp over Hamline University. The Royals left no doubt in the afternoon matinee, as each player composed statement wins over the Piper opponents.

Lisa Scheevel (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) and Steph Brown (Jr., Lake City, Minn.) led off the doubles competitions with an 8-2 win over the Hamline number one duo. Kristin Vivian (Fr., Green Bay, Wis.) and Kayla Wheeler (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.) continued to roll with an 8-3 victory in the number two doubles affair. Finally, Charise Kendrick (So., Scandia, Minn.) and Amanda Johnson (So., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) closed out the doubles matches with an 8-2 triumph in the number three doubles matchup.
 
Steph Brown defeated her opponent 6-4, 7-5 in the number one singles play, while Lisa Scheevel owned her Piper foe 6-2, 6-2 at number two. Kristin Vivian continued the trend, as she took down her opponent in the number three match 6-2, 6-0, which helped Wheeler take down her contender 6-0, 6-2. Amanda Johnson and Abigail Kreklau (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) were just as dominant, as Johnson outdueled the number five Piper 6-2, 6-0, and Kreklau ousted Hamline's number six player 6-1, 6-0.
 
The Royals improve to 5-12 on the season, and look to finish the season strong with two matches remaining. Bethel will play host to both St. Olaf College and Gustavus Adolphus College this week, as the Oles come to Ona Orth Wednesday, April 25 and the Gusties come in Saturday, April 28.
