ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's tennis team was unable to capture its first MIAC win Tuesday, April 17, as the Royals fell to St. Catherine University 2-7. Despite only winning two matches, BU nearly captured several other victories; however, at the end of the day the Wildcats stole a road win in conference play.
Kayla Wheeler (Jr. Oakdale, Minn.) and
Amanda Johnson (So., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) were the only two players to muster a victory as the duo each defeated its opponent in the singles competition. Wheeler out-dueled her competition in the number four match 6-2, 6-1, while Johnson endured a 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 battle in the number five singles affair.
Steph Brown (Jr., Lake City, Minn.) just missed a victory, as the junior fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-10 in the number three singles match.
The loss drops Bethel to 5-11 overall and 0-7 within MIAC play. The Royals still look to get the monkey off their back when they compete against Hamline in St. Paul Monday, April 23.
