Winona, Minn. – Friday evening showcased a MIAC women's tennis matchup between Bethel University and Saint Mary's University, where the Cardinals clawed the Royals 7-2. BU took one match in both the singles and doubles competitions, but remained competitive throughout the entire duel.
Kristin Vivian (Fr., Green Bay, Wis.) landed the only victory for Bethel in the singles category, as the No. 3 player ousted her opponent 6-2, 6-1.
Kayla Wheeler (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.) kept her match extremely entertaining throughout the entire contest, as she split the first two sets 6-3, 2-6, and fell in the tiebreaker 9-11.
Vivian and Wheeler found success in their doubles matchup as well, defeating the SMU duo 8-2. The exhilarating doubles stomp was the only match that the Royals were within range, however, which pointed to the 7-2 defeat.
The Royals fall to 2-3 on the year and 0-2 within conference play. The Cardinals, ranked No. 25 in the region, improve to 7-5 overall (1-2 MIAC). BU will now travel to Florida to take on five different schools throughout the next week.
