Women's Hockey Musters 1-1 Tie Against Augsburg

Royals only manage one despite 34 shots

MINNEAPOLIS – Neither team scored a goal throughout the first 40 minutes of the Saturday evening's women's hockey affair, but it was an Augsburg College power play goal four minutes into the third period and a Biz Huss (Jr., Beaver Bay, Minn.) power play goal 80 seconds later that ended the road contest in a 1-1 tie. Bethel outshot Augsburg 34-24, yet couldn't compose any more goals in its attempt to capture a two-game sweep. The Royals did extend the Auggies' 10-game streak without a win, in which five have ended in a tie.

With 4:12 expired in the third period Jenna Dudley put Augsburg ahead 1-0 on a power play goal that escaped the reach of junior goalkeeper Jess Newstrom (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.), yet Huss responded nearly instantaneously with her own power play goal 84 seconds later evening the game at one. BU was unable to convert any more shot opportunities the rest of the way, and finished the three periods and five-minute overtime with a 1-1 tie.

Newstrom recorded 23 saves while Augsburg's Schulz posted 32 saves, as an encore to Friday evenings 53 saves. Huss led all skaters by far with eight shots on goal, while Anna Carlson (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) also applied pressure on the Auggie net with five shots.

Bethel will play a two-day double header next weekend against the College of Saint Benedict, who stands one game behind the Royals in conference standings at No. Six. BU will travel to St. Joseph, Minn. Friday evening and then will welcome the Blazers to Blaine, Minn. Saturday.
