Bethel Makes it Three Straight with 3-1 Win over Augsburg

Royals win third consecutive MIAC match

Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS – The Royals captured its third straight victory against a conference opponent Wednesday evening, as Bethel took down Augsburg on the road 3-1. Bethel (12-6, 3-3 MIAC) took the opening set 25-12, before the Auggies (10-8, 2-3 MIAC) rallied in the second to beat BU 25-15. With the match at 1-1, the Royals charged ahead behind 10 blocks and an overall team hitting percentage of .190 to win games three and four.

Cierra Nickel (So., Sanborn, Minn.) led Bethel in assists against Augsburg, as the 5-6 setter posted her fourth straight 40-plus contest. Nickel also had a hand in four blocks, which is a career high for the underclassman. Nickel's four "40-plus" matches in a row hasn't happened since 2007, when Laura Naig posted seven straight.

Another streak that continues to unfold itself is Nicole Ackatz's (Jr., Elkhorn, Wis.) pair of trios. Ackatz's 14 kills Wednesday was the third consecutive match the Elkhorn, Wis. native has posted double-digit kills. Additionally, it is the junior outside hitter's third game in a row with a hitting mark of .315 or better. Ackatz and Amy Baumetz (Sr., Three Lakes, Wis.) were electric, hitting .316 with 14 and 15 kills, respectively.

Baumetz and Caitie Helle (Sr., Onamia, Minn.) were just as good at the net, as the pair of middle blockers combined for five of the team's ten blocks. Helle also managed six kills, two serving aces, and five digs. Freshman Kali Johnson (Tacoma, Wash.) also posted two aces for the Royals.

BU will continue to compete on the road throughout the Homecoming week, as the Royals travel to Waverly, Iowa to play four games in the Wartburg College Tournament. Bethel will face Simpson, Nebraska Wesleyan, Gustauvs, and Carthage Friday and Saturday.
