BOX SCORE
BLAINE, Minn. – After routing the visiting Lady Lions of Lindenwood University Friday night 6-3, the Bethel University women's hockey team fell in the Saturday matinee 4-3. The Royals out shot the visiting Lady Lions 44-35 throughout the contest, yet it wasn't enough as Lindenwood tallied three goals in the second period.
Things looked favorable early on when
Biz Huss (Jr., Beaver Bay, Minn.) snuck her eighth goal of the season past the LU goalie on a
Kalie Johnson (Fr., Richfield, Minn.) assist, giving the Royals the 1-0 edge with 13 minutes to play in the second frame.
Lindenwood was desperate to make its trip from Missouri worthwhile, however, and scored two unanswered goals within six minutes to take the 2-1 lead.
Sarah Kartak (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) evened the game at two a-piece with her first goal of the season on a
Kate Wahlin (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) and
Anna Carlson (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) assist. The Lady Lions regained the lead two minutes later when Samantha Redick posted her fourth goal on the year, putting LU ahead 3-2.
LU picked up an insurance goal 11 minutes into the third period, when Jordyn Constance fired her fourth goal of the Lindenwood season past BU goaltender,
Jess Newstrom (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.). The Royals attempted a comeback when
Rachael Geng (Sr., South Saint Paul, Minn.) fired a power-play goal past LU goaltender, Briar Bache. Geng's goal was her fifth of the season, coming from
Kalie Johnson and
Anna Carlson, who are the top two in assists for BU. It wouldn't be enough, though, as the Lady Lions finished the game with the 4-3 victory.
A number of skaters tallied shots in Saturday afternoon's contest, as the Royals composed 44 shots on goal – a season high. Huss and
Cristina Masten (So., Fergus Falls, Minn.) each recorded eight shots towards the LU net, yet it was Huss was the only one of the two to muster a goal.
Bethel University falls to 5-6-2 with the loss, and looks to improve itself in the MIAC when it faces St. Olaf next week in a Friday-Saturday double-header. Currently the Royals are 3-3 within conference play, just three games behind the leading Gusties of Gustavus.
