BU Falls in Last Minutes to Hamline

Pipers down Royals 3-2

Kogler tallied two goals against Pipers
BLAINE, Minn. - After grabbing an initial 1-0 lead in the first period the Royals surrendered three late goals, falling to Hamline University 3-2 in its final game of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Showcase.

Bethel opened the game with an early power play goal by Jake Kogler (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.), assisted by Jon Crouse (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) and Jimmie Perkins (Fr., Chicago, Ill.) at the 5:44-minute mark in the first period. BU held onto the lead for 20 minutes, until Zach Johnson of the Pipers evened the score at one a-piece just over five minutes to play in the second period.

Hamline tallied its second goal of the afternoon 39 seconds into the third period when Brian Arrigoni slipped a puck past BU goalie, Robby Brown (Fr., Battleboro, Vt.), giving HU its first lead of the game. The Royals continued to battle, however, displaying high intensity througout the entire competition. Bethel's intensity paid off at the 12-minute mark when Kogler notched his second goal of the game, evening the score at two.

The Pipers recorded its third goal of the game with less than two minutes to play when Ryan McElhone delivered the game-winning goal for Hamline.

Throughout the matchup the Royals recorded 23 shots, led by Jack Paul (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.), who fired five shots twoard the HU goalie. Mason Swenson (Sr., Eagan, Minn.), Jon Crouse, and Jake Kogler each tallied three shots as well.

Robby Brown received his first start of the season Saturday, saving 31 shots from Hamline skaters.

The Royals look to put the opening games behind them next weekend as they travel to Wisconsin to take on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday night at 7 p.m. and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
