ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bethel University finished their series with the Hamline University Pipers at the Warner Coliseum on Saturday night. The contest was an exciting matchup as the Royals were able to prove their stature against a top rated team. It was in the third period that the Royals were able to pull ahead 4-3, but a late empty-net attempt by the Pipers resulted in a tie between the teams as the overtime yielded no result.
The Bethel Royals struggled again in the first period as they went down by two goals, scored by Danny Vranek (Sr., New Port Richie, Fla.) and Chris Berenguer (Sr., Eden Praire, Minn.). Being outshot 13-5 in the first it had the appearance of the previous night, however, this was far from true.
The Royals came out in the second period with a confidence that brought them into the game.
Jack Paul lead it off with a goal from
Jake Kogler and Christian Fogerty. The Pipers brought it back to a two goal lead with a a goal from Alex Lundbohm (Sr. Roseau, Minn.). But it was
Jack Paul again, from Christian Fogerty and
Austin Hatch. Bringing the game to a tie was
Josh Shingler from
Jon Crouse.
It was in the third period that the Royals took the lead against Hamline. It was the night's first powerplay goal which was scored by
Garrett Windle from
Chris Fiala and
Tyler Sorensen. The Royals held the lead up in until the end when the Pipers pulled their goalie and scored with an extra attacker.
The overtime yielded no result and the Royals came away with a point for the weekend.
The next home game will be January 22nd, 2011 against Saint Mary's University at the Bethel University Arena. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
